Teaching Reel
I just want you to know that you have DEFINITELY left your mark on me as a dancer. I LOVE the way you teach and how real you are about dance. There wasn't one day that you didn't express what dance means to YOU. It was amazing to have a teacher that lives, breathes and eats DANCE. Your movement is truly an art that I appreciate, and will keep dearly in my heart because it spoke to me individually. Trust me I will NEVER forget your choreography. What you do and what you stand for is uplifting and inspirational. I have learned SO MUCH from you. I want to teach, like you do, and inspire others with my love for dance, like you. THANK YOU Wanjiru. You brought out the music in me even more. You have shown me that what I love to do, is actually worth something.
I have never felt so spiritually blessed in my entire past 18 years of dancing. I prayed after I danced tonight, thankful for bringing this experience into all our lives. You are a true inspiration. I would have never been able to go to that level without such an amazing artist's direction and choreography.
“You inspired me”
My experience working with Wanjiru Kamuyu was like no other and I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world. Never have I ever worked with a choreographer who not only produced innovative and creative work but also took the approach that she did. When she set "when paradise shatters at its seams then what" on me and eleven other dancers at Wayne State University, the way she got us to really engulf ourselves in the work and perform it with true integrity was amazing. What I found to be the most rewarding part of her process was how she was able to incorporate healing. Each of us dancers had our own individual story and were able to encounter a breakthrough with the help and guidance of Wanjiru. Never before have I gone through such a choreographic process that left such a strong impact on me. It will forever affect how I approach future works that I am asked to perform and/or possibly choreograph. I am eternally grateful for being blessed with such an opportunity to work with such a profound woman, choreographer, and artist. What an honor it was.
I wanted to thank you again for setting such an amazing work of art on all of us Wayne State dancers! I can't even begin to personally thank you for helping me overcome issues that have been hard for me to deal with in the past. Each night I had a completely different experience with the piece... each was truly a blessing. ...I felt your spirit guiding all of us through to the end of the piece. It was a comforting and supportive feeling, especially because I found peace and acceptance knowing you saw strength in all of us to overcome our weaknesses/past experiences.
Thank you for giving me a chance. My best performance night was emotional and bittersweet. The movement was cradling me and it comforted me in a way that dance has never done before. From the bottom of my heart THANK YOU for giving me that feeling and experience.
Wanjiru is like the Pied Piper of Dance! Through her sensitivity, caring yet firm approach, students blossom under her tutelage, reaching new levels of technique, maturity and artistry. Her choreography is powerful and thoughtful and she draws the highest intention out of the dancers through internal exploration that moves to the physical, which involves the dancers in the creative process. Students remain uplifted, fulfilled and changed after working in such a positive environment.
